Dunes: Musings from 40 Days in Our Desert is a lyrically written poetry collection to highlight the common and unique experiences we all face.
This book of poems is an in-depth and relatable reflection on what we go through and how we go through it, who we meet and the impacts we allow them to leave, and where we glean and how we beam. All the way remembering: we don’t have to take on this desert alone. This journey is ours — we are all the sand and we are all the sun.
I first jotted down the ideas for this poetry collection in high school. Common, the rapper, happened to be visiting my college a couple years later. During the meet-and-greet, I showed him a journal entry of one “finished” poem. He read my verses and said: “This needs to be a book. This needs to be published.”
Less than a year later, it was.
